HOSPICE PHARMD ELECTED TO BOARD OF SPCP
Niagara Hospice Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services, Robert G. Wahler, PharmD, CPE has been voted in by the Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists (SPCP) general membership as a Board of Trustee member representing the Specialty practice of hospice. The Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists (SPCP) promotes exceptional patient care by advancing pain and palliative pharmacists through education, development, and research in collaboration with the transdisciplinary team.
SPCP founding president, Julie Lehn, stated: "I believe that pharmacists should be integral members of transdisciplinary teams in the specialty areas of palliative care, pain and hospice. The knowledge and expertise provided by pharmacists is crucial to ensuring an improvement in quality of life, positive clinical outcomes, a reduction in readmission rates and the provision of high quality care for the patients and families we serve."
A University at Buffalo Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy in Geriatrics and Palliative Care, Wahler is also the first Certified Pain Educator in Western New York certified by the American Society of Pain Educators (ASPE). Niagara Hospice CEO, John Lomeo said: "We are privileged to have Dr. Wahler on our team. His expertise and Society of Palliative Care Pharmacists appointment bring added value to our clinicians, and to our patients who have the benefit of his specialized training and experience."
Wahler's SPCP term will begin January 1, 2017. Upon learning of the appointment, Wahler said, "I'm very excited about this opportunity to serve not only this specialty as a founding member, but the patients that SPCP will impact through our efforts. It's a great honor."
