Summer Brings Great Times and Community Support

As we enjoy spring weather, it is also a great time to start filling up the calendar with summer events and outdoor activities in our communities across Niagara County.

The Niagara Hospice special events department produces several signature summer events that raise funds to provide the highest quality of specialized care for our patients and comprehensive support for their families and caregivers.

We encourage businesses and community members to participate in our events. We are very ap-preciative of the efforts and contributions that help us enhance the physical, emotional, spiritual and bereavement services that our fellow Niagara County residents need and deserve.

Below is an overview of our summer event schedule. You can call us at 439-4417, email infor-mation@niagarahospice.org or visit NiagaraHospice.org/Annual-Events if you have any ques-tions or if you want to learn about being an event sponsor.

Niagara Hospice Gran Fondo – Saturday, June 15

The term “Gran Fondo” originated in Italy and translates to “Big Ride.” Also known as a party on wheels, the Niagara Hospice Gran Fondo is a bike ride along the Niagara Wine Trail that of-fers food and refreshments along the route. The event starts at Krull Park in Olcott, and partici-pants can choose to ride 62 miles, 30 miles or 15 miles. Following the ride is a huge party that includes live music, draft beer, food and wine tastings. Riders have the opportunity to ride along some of the most beautiful bike routes of Western New York. JackBeatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake – Friday, July 12

The Jack Beatty Memorial Cruise and Clambake is held annually at the Youngstown Yacht Club and this year we are celebrating the event’s 20th anniversary. Local skippers generously donate their boats to take guests on a leisurely cruise up the Niagara River. Guests enjoy cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and live music out on the open water. Following the cruise, guests return to the Youngstown Yacht Club for a fabulous clambake dinner and more live entertainment. For more information, visit NiagaraHospiceRegatta.com.

Memorial Butterfly Release – Saturday, July 20

The annual Niagara Hospice Memorial Butterfly Release is located on our picturesque campus at 4675 Sunset Drive in the Town of Lockport. Participants have the option to pre-order live butter-flies and partake in a mass butterfly release in memory of a loved one. The butterflies are released all together following a short program conducted by Niagara Hospice. The beauty of the butter-flies as they are released symbolizes change and transition serving as a healing activity for those who are grieving. We sell a variety of memorial items that families can purchase in memory of loved ones as well. During the release, there is music, refreshments and activities for children. Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K – Saturday, September 21

The Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K, first introduced in the fall of 2011, has grown tremendously over the years. Niagara Hospice now promotes this race on a national level and it is, without a doubt, one of our premier annual events. The race committee goes to great lengths to make sure that this is the one race you don’t want to miss. It offers a pre-race concert, live music along the route, historical sites, beautiful views of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, and post-race celebrations. Runners also receive high-quality T-shirts, custom-made race medals and great food. For more information, visit MightyNiagaraHalfMarathon.com

Thank you to everyone who has registered, sponsored and volunteered for our events. Your gen-erous support sustains our mission throughout the year. We look forward to seeing more partici-pants this summer!
