Niagara Hospice Holds 20th Annual Light-A-Life Ceremony

The holidays bring joy, but it can also be a time of sorrow for those who have lost a loved one.

Each year, Niagara Hospice invites the community to its Light-A-Life event. It has become a tradition for many families who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

On Thursday, Dec. 5, more than 200 families gathered under the Dominic Lariccia Family Pavilion at Niagara Hospice to celebrate their loved ones and light a candle in their memory.

During the commemoration, the names and pictures of loved ones who have passed were displayed during a memorial slideshow presentation. Families were then invited to light their candles for grief, for courage, for memories, for love and for hope.

Participants also enjoyed live holiday music, homemade cookies and a hot cocoa bar, while children were entertained with holiday crafts and games.

"Light-A-Life is a time for families to come together before the start of the holidays to remember loved ones who have passed away, and pause and invite them back into our lives while remembering the great things about them that we miss and hold dear," said Allison Bolt, Niagara Hospice Events Coordinator.
