| PETS VOLUNTEER AT HOSPICE! |

 Niagara Hospice volunteers provided over 7,000 hours of support last year doing everything from direct patient care to pet and music visits. Volunteers make up 5 percent of the clinical workforce hours at Niagara Hospice, as mandated by Medicare.
Due to the increase in volunteer requests, Niagara Hospice director of volunteer services, Alice Beck, is recruiting compassionate individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of Niagara County residents as they make their final journey.
“We have many volunteer opportunities available,” says Beck. “Positions include patient related and non-patient related jobs. Volunteers are especially needed to assist in music and pet visits with patients.” Beck states that the music and pet visits have been a huge success with area hospice patients and that more pet owners and musicians are needed. Visits take place at Niagara Hospice House, in the patient’s or caregiver’s home, and at area long term care facilities where hospice patients reside.
Beck also said that area high school teens are needed to carry on with the Legacy Videos project initiated at Niagara Hospice last year. By producing Legacy Videos, teens help patients record their life story on video or DVD, providing the patient and their family something to cherish forever.
