6,000 MILES ON FOOT FOR HOSPICE
In September, 2009 Dr. Colin Skinner, the son of Monica Pickford who passed away in Britain while under hospice care in February of 2003, will embark on his fifth long distance walk to raise money and awareness for hospice. Skinner, now 44, has made journeys from Scotland to England, through Iceland, and across the U.S. and New Zealand over the last 27 years, covering over 10,000 miles to date.

On his next journey, Skinner plans to walk 6,000 miles across the U.S. and will pass through Western New York as he makes his way from the Kennedy Airport in New York City to Minot, North Dakota. While on his journey through New York State, he will stop and visit Niagara Hospice to share his stories from recent voyages and to promote his book, ‘Beyond the Setting Sun.’ Proceeds from the book sales during his visit will be donated to Niagara Hospice. The book is said to be emotionally moving and motivating towards giving to the hospice in your community.

This will not be Skinner’s first trip to Western New York. His last visit was in 1988 when Niagara Hospice was just beginning to serve patients in Niagara County. The purpose of his journey is not only to raise money for hospices around the globe but also to educate those he encounters and make them aware of the services hospice can provide.
