Niagara Hospice and community groups and individuals host dozens of events each year to help support the Niagara Hospice mission of providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time. Listed below are our featured annual events. For a complete list of upcoming events that benefit Niagara Hospice, visit the Event Calendar page.
Hospice Gran Fondo
What is a Gran Fondo? A Gran Fondo is a type of ride that originated in Italy and translates to Big Ride. Known as a party on wheels, Gran Fondos offer food & refreshments along the route and are followed by huge post-race parties. The Hospice Gran Fondo offers all that and more! Food and refreshments are available along the four routes, with several of the refreshment stops at various Niagara Wine Trail wineries. The wineries also offer tastings and sell wine by the bottle at the post-race party. The post-race party features live music, draft beer, wine tastings, fruit, water, and more! The Hospice Gran Fondo is a family friendly event offering riders of all abilities the opportunity to ride along some of the most beautiful bike routes WNY has to offer. Riders can ride 62 miles (100 km), 30 miles, 15 miles, and 5 miles. For more information, visit www.HospiceGranFondo.com.
Grief is a process that affects people of all ages. Children often grieve differently from adults. Niagara Hospice offers a special weekend camp that is designed to help children age 7-13 deal with the loss of a loved one. Campers play, talk together about their losses, share emotions with others, and recognize that grief is a natural response to losing a loved one. Camp Hope provides a fun, safe, and learning environment where children work together to learn ways to help themselves cope, as well as learn to help each other. Niagara Hospice is proud to offer Camp Hope to children who have lost a loved one, whether or not they ever experienced hospice care. Camp Hope is free and available to children throughout WNY. Memorial Butterfly Release
Let your memories take flight at the annual Niagara Hospice Memorial Butterfly Release. Held in July on the Niagara Hospice campus in Lockport, guests enjoy music, refreshments, kid's activities and more! Participants can pre-order live butterflies to partake in the mass release, as well as other memorial items, in memory of loved ones. The butterflies are released together following a short ceremony conducted by Niagara Hospice staff. The beauty of the butterflies as they are released - symbolizing change and transition - creates a healing activity for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. View Butterfly Release photos
